Description
2021 Wayfarer Walter conversion on a 2014 Ram Promaster EcoDiesel, 136" WB, mid-roof. The 2021 Walter conversion is a dry camper setup without any electrical system, but it does have a 5 gallon fresh water, hand pump, and 5 gallon grey water in the kitchenette. https://wayfarervans.com/walter-camper-kit/
The van was previously used by a property management company and purchased with about 90,000 miles. Prior to installing the Walter conversion, we installed: 2x10" subwoofers, door speakers, A-pillar tweeters, mass-loaded vinyl on all panels / surfaces, front door insulation, "forehead" (above the cab) insulation, removed extra rivnuts from the storage racks and applied body filler and paint for all points under the floor, painted the wheel wells, painted the wheel covers, new tires, completely new emissions system,
After the Walter conversion, we built / installed: 7.7 kW 24 V LiFePo battery, 360W alternator charging, 3 kW AC inverter/charger/solar MPPT, 400W roof-mounted solar on ultra-low profile aluminum rack, lighting (kitchen, bed, and under bed), drop-in 1,800W induction stove, 48 Quart Iceco refrigerator, and shore power. I will provide instructions / a run-through with any prospective buyer.
Who this is NOT for: if you're comparison shopping with a Winnebago or Thor $$$ conversion, this is probably too spartan of accommodations and not a great choice!
Who this IS for: if you're currently camping in a tent, minivan, or your Subaru at the local crag, before bike races, or contemplating a DIY conversion to keep costs low and realize a roadtripping dream, this is right up your alley and why we bought it in the first place. It has traversed the country at least 5 times, ran up and through the Rockies with ease, and survived all sorts of weather. Nobody pays it any mind as it is quite stealthy and has 100's of nights in truck stops and rest areas without any knocks or complaints.
The EcoDiesel with the mere ~700 lbs of the conversion in the back is unstressed and with proper maintenance will surely outlast the van's body. I've tracked nearly 46,000 miles of fill-ups for an average of 24.3 mpg. https://www.fuelly.com/car/ram/promaster_2500/2014/unitdropforge/1078210
We've switched to a truck camper due to some changes in our life, but the van is still ready to roll anywhere, anytime!
