Description
This 1997 Safari Trek 2830 Pathfinder Diesel is a great size for a couple or single traveler. At 28' long, you can get in and out and park in a regular head-to-head parking lot, so stopping for groceries or food is painless. The queen-sized bed lowers from the ceiling, so the entire coach is the living area during the day. The coach feels larger than 28'. In 1997, Safari was still making coaches with aluminum frames and sidewalls (like airplanes), so there's no fear of delamination. The coach has been upgraded with 400 watts of solar, a 460 Ah LiFePo battery, and a LiBIM battery isolation manager, so shore power is optional. The original CCTV backup camera has been replaced with a Furrion Vision S camera system, with cameras in the rear and left and right front corners.
The kitchen includes a 3-burner propane stove, electric/propane Norcold refrigerator, convection microwave oven, and ample storage, with hardwood cabinetry and floors. The bathroom is large for a short coach, with a large mirrored wardrobe and several drawers. The coach has a 13,500-BTU air-conditioner and a 42,000-BTU propane furnace, with a 35-gallon propane tank.
The 6.5-liter diesel engine has a new harmonic balancer and billet pulley from Fluidampr (The OEM balancers are recommended for replacement at 100k miles). The steering was upgraded with front springs and new polyurethane sway bar bushings from SuperSteer, so the coach handles more like a large truck than a boxy RV. The coach accelerates smoothly and has no difficulty maintaining 70 mph on the freeway. Mileage varies between 11-14 mpg depending on terrain.
The coach has an 80-gallon freshwater tank, 40 gallons each for black and gray. The 3.6 kW LPG Onan generator is quiet and powers all of the coach's appliances and air conditioner.
The bad: the driver's-side windshield has a crack that does not enter the field of view, and the tires are from 2021. While the tires have low mileage, for RVs it's all about the weight. They'll need to be replaced in the next two years or so.
