If youre new to RVs, welcome.

Buying an RV can feel overwhelming because there are so many floor plans, chassis options, features, opinions, and sales pitches.

Rather than give you the typical everything is amazing advertisement, Ive tried to answer many of the questions I commonly receive, including a few uncomfortable ones.

My goal is simple: help you make an informed decision, whether you buy this RV or not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the RV make creaking, rattling, or squeaking noises while driving?

This is completely normal for most Class C motorhomes. Unless youre shopping in the $300,000+ luxury coach market, RV manufacturers use lightweight materials to keep weight and costs reasonable. Cabinets, trim, hardware, and interior components are designed to be lightweight rather than residential-grade.

The tradeoff is occasional squeaks and rattles while traveling.

The ad says 2023, but the drivers door sticker says 2022 Ford E-450. Why?

The chassis and the RV are built separately.

Ford manufactured the E-450 chassis in 2022. Gulf Stream then purchased the chassis and completed the motorhome conversion. Once the completed coach which takes up to a years, was released and sold, it became a 2023 model and is recognized as such through the DMV.

This is standard practice throughout the RV industry.

Has this RV ever been rented?

Yes, four times through Outdoorsy.

Outdoorsy allows private owners to rent their personal RVs. I carefully screened each renter because this was my personal coach, not a rental fleet vehicle.

I quickly learned the rental business wasnt for me and chose not to continue although lucrative. Some choose to rent with platforms like Outdoorsy to defer costs or even make profit. You can make around 40K per year if you are willing to rent it out regularly. I put it back on Outdoorsy this season just to check the market and turned down over 7K in rentals just in 4 weeks. It is just not why I purchased it.

For perspective, many dealership-owned rentals spend years being rented continuously. This RV was never used that way.

What fuel mileage does it get?

Expect approximately 9 MPG.

The Ford 7.3L Godzilla V8 delivers very consistent performance, even in mountain driving.

Can I drive 80 MPH up steep grades like Tahoe or Donner Pass?

The RV is capable of it.

The better question is whether you should.

Like any heavy vehicle, driving aggressively up long grades creates unnecessary heat in the engine and transmission. Experienced RV owners generally travel the way professional truck drivers do, comfortable, steady, and efficient.

Cruising between 6065 MPH on long grades is easier on the vehicle and usually makes for a more enjoyable trip.

I found another Gulf Stream for less money. Why is yours priced higher?

Not all Gulf Streams are equipped the same.

MOST comparable units are built on the E-350 chassis. This coach is built on the heavier-duty E-450 platform with the 7.3L Godzilla V8.

The difference becomes noticeable when climbing grades, carrying gear, towing, braking, or traveling long distances.

Can I take this into California State Parks?

Absolutely.

One of the biggest advantages of a 24-foot Class C is that it fits into many campgrounds and parks that larger motorhomes cannot access. 

Always verify individual campground restrictions before booking.

Does it have automatic leveling jacks?

No.

Personally, I prefer it that way.

After owning RVs with automatic leveling systems, I found them expensive to repair and often finicky. Many experienced RV owners feel the same and opt for the simplicity of the leveling ramps and blocks. This RV levels quickly using the included leveling blocks and ramps and typically takes only a couple of minutes.

It looks huge. Is it difficult to drive?

Most people are surprised by how easy it is.  If youre comfortable driving a pickup truck, youll likely be comfortable driving this RV.

The E-450 chassis feels stable and predictable. The large mirrors, backup camera, and relatively short wheelbase make maneuvering easier than many people expect.

What makes a Class C so popular?

Many RV owners feel a Class C offers the best balance of comfort, practicality, and drivability.

Benefits include:
