Description

This is a gently used Winnebago Solis 59P with 19,450 all-highway miles. It has been our "cool grandparents" camper for five summers but as the kids grow it's getting more crowded, so we're upgrading to a bigger rig. The Solis is built on an excellent Dodge RAM chassis, with a fuel-efficient and powerful 3.6 Liter 280 hp six-cylinder engine. This one is in very good condition, runs perfectly, and gets almost 20 MPG if you aren't in too big of a hurry on the road. It's easy and fun to drive (great driver and front seat passenger visibility).

There is a kitchenette with a stove, sink, and Nova Cool refrigerator, as well as a bathroom with a toilet and shower (we stash a small oven in the bathroom - with a typical A/C power hookup, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies are a high priority with our crew). This particular Solis has the less common rear bench seat (think futon) that converts to a queen bed. Importantly, this feature enables legal (seat-belted) seating for the driver and six passengers, three more than usual, a key feature for us.

The "pop top" double bed is accessible via the stowaway ladder and has its own lighting and USB outlets. Rooftop solar (hence the name, "Solis") keeps everything charged so off-grid camping is easy (and consequently the most fun!). Note, in order to use A/C appliances such as the toaster oven (or a small microwave) you need to connect to a 30-amp service or standard household 120V outlet (adaptor included). We also pack a space heater that uses campsite electric and conserves propane. Fuel for furnace/heat, hot water, and two-burner cooktop come from an embedded 25 lb. propane tank. The toilet flushes into a nifty convenient pop-out cassette that can be emptied at a dump station, porta-potty, or household toilet. Fresh water (21 gallons) and gray water tanks (20 gallons) provide ample capacity and are simple to fill and drain.

If RV-ing is something you've thought about and never tried, we're happy to share stories of our family trips and unique experiences in this nicely designed and practical rig.
