We just completed (10 October) a wonderful 7000 mile cross country, month long trip. The van performed flawlessly. The previous owner had replaced the coach battery and installed new tires in late 2024 and just after our purchase we had the shock absorbers replaced. Since our return we completed all of the scheduled maintenance including: serpentine belt, oil change, fuel filter change, transmission, differential and radiator drain and flush. The brakes are well within wear limits. Prior to the trip we purchased a 2 inch memory foam mattress which greatly improved sleeping comfort. We also installed an upgraded shower wand and installed temporary indoor-outdoor carpet. We wondered about the refrigerator's ability to keep food cold on those long drive days so we used ice packs in freezer and cold compartments to ensure coldness. We could have used propane and run the unit on the road but chose not to. Our method worked great and we did have a refrigerator thermometer to monitor its temps. The refrigerator is operated on propane or 120V. The water heater has been modified so that it operates on propane and 120V. Our power usage was well supplied by the 100W solar, on board generator, coach battery and/or 20 or 30 Amp shore power. We had a couple cool nights (34 degrees) that we ran the heater (coach battery power only) and yet the lowest indicated morning battery condition was 60 percent. I did calculate mileage at each fill up and found results to be 19 &20 mpg at 75mph interstate days and 21-24 mpg on the off interstate segments at speeds of 55 - 70mpg. We found that we could cook, clean, wash and shower for three days before using up the on board water supply and waste provisions; the propane usage averaged 3 pounds for each 9 day period. The one shortfall of the van is its non-updated radio/nav system. We used our two phones, one for google maps and one for satellite music and news (with a quality, blue tooth enabled speaker) and this worked well but this is the only place that deserves an update.
So, you ask, why are we selling? We have two more trips that we would like to do: the Oregon coast (1200 miles) and Grand Canyon (1800 miles). We want to take our 2 large dogs along but it would be very tight and uncomfortable in the van's space. We own a 26 foot Arctic Fox trailer that we can comfortably use for these trips. Additionally, my other hobby is night photography and my wife is totally against moving the van around and/or being woken up at midnight as I fulfill my hobby; again a parked trailer
fulfills this dilemma.
