Description

Wow. I am sad to be writing this. I love our Solis PX and the places it has taken us. But we are moving to Europe, and we can't take it with us :(

I created the perfect drawings for a custom van, but thenmy wife found the Solis floor plan. It was half the price of a custom van and matched almost exactly what we were looking for: a bathroom, two queen beds, an extended back storage area with easy access for bikes and gear, a couple of showers (in and outdoor), and a pop top loft that fit our two nieces.

Kings of the Road (and the Campground). The Solis is super easy to drive and park. On the road, we like to be up high. Backing the van into our driveway and campsites is also a breeze. We park. We get out. We build the fire. There is none of the hassle of backing a trailer in just right.

Snuggling In. We sleep great. We pop on the air or heat if we need to top off. But mostly we just enjoy being outside and crawling into bed.

We tend to sleep in the queen-size bed across the van thats the murphy bed in the floorplan and to keep the murphy bed out in most circumstances. There is plenty of storage in the back and underneath. The kids tend to climb the ladder and sleep in the pop-top loft, which takes maybe 15 seconds to set up and take down.

Kitchen. We use the fridge a lot. But we tend to cook and eat outside. Still, we've had a couple of cold weather trips where we were very, very thankful for the stove and kitchen. The range is a two-burner with a glass cover that runs on propane. The galley also has a stainless sink.

Climate Control & Generator. The van has both AC and heat. It was two batteries: one for managing the cabin and for the chassis. You can use the cabin battery to start the camper if the chassis battery runs out of juice. The cabin has a propane generator that is quiet and easy to start from inside the van. The roof has a solar panel for tickling the batteries. There is a long cable for easy connections to shore power.

Bathroom. The bathroom has a hot-water shower and a cassette toilet that is easy to clean imagine a carry-on sized suitcase with wheels that you access outside the van and dump in a normal toilet or RV sewage station. The bathroom is a wet-bath so its easy to clean. When Im solo, I use it for extra storage.

Upgrades. We have upgraded the stereo and added a spare tire. We upgraded the springs, added comfy mattress pads to both beds, tucked in winter insulation, and purchased an aftermarket desk. We've followed all of the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations.

Floorplan. Heres a link to the Winnebago Solis PDX website. Our camper van is identical to the 59PX floorplan shown:

Engine. The van is built on a Ram ProMaster 3500 chassis. They are everywhere on the road so its been easy to maintain. The engine is a 280-hp, 3.6L V6 gas engine, 9-speed automatic transmission, with a 180-amp alternator.

Details. All wheels have ABS brakes. We dont use the hitch except when we want to carry extra bikes, but the van has a trailer hitch with a 3,500-lb. drawbar/350-lb. maximum vertical tongue weight and a wiring harness connection.

Other Loves. I hate bugs, so the full length, magnetic screens that cover the back storage area and sliding doors are awesome. Easy in, easy out. We can leave the doors open at night. No critters. No reminding the kids to shut the door or zip the tent.
