Description
The 2022 Freedom Express 20SE is a perfect Couples trailer. The walk-around bed, a third closet that could be converted into a pantry, and generous kitchen counter space makes this trailer stand out from the rest.
We added twin 195-watt solar panels, twin batteries, and a 2000-watt inverter at the dealership for extended boondocking experiences.
One of the reasons this trailer has a more spacious feel to it is the ceiling height, which is greater than average at 81 inches. The large windows and open kitchen gave it a special feeling that we never found in other trailers.
The listed Gross Vehicle weight of 6,000 pounds is quite deceiving. That weight is based on:
The weight of the trailer: 4160
FULL fresh water tank of 50 gallons 420
FULL Gray water of 35 gallons 294
FULL Black water tank of 35 gallons 294
That is an estimate of 832 pounds of food and clothes.
We NEVER carried that much weight. We had it weighed at truck stops, and it was always way under 5,000.
If we were going boondocking for an extended period, we would have empty gray and black water tanks. If we were traveling between RV parks, again, the G&B tanks would be empty, with maybe 15 gallons of fresh water.
Kitchen and dining area
The kitchen is a joy to cook in with ample cupboard space. It features a long counter with the usual three-burner stove, oven, and a double-bowl sink. The silverware drawer is U-shaped with a plastic insert to help organize utensils. The drawer goes around the sink and is a terrific use of space.
The best feature is the seating in the back, which has large windows letting in all that sunshine. The large bench can seat three, plus seating for two on the bench next to the fridge. We entertained friends on rainy days and ended the evening with a game of cards. But in all honesty, this is where we spent most of our time. We brought our computers to keep up with our work and write family back home in the evenings or during inclement weather.
The free-standing table is more convenient than a table with a pole or a folding table that must be stowed away. We put a carpet under it to protect the floor. Alternatively, you can move the table and sit on the rear gaucho to watch the TV, which is situated above the kitchen countertop.
The closet right at the entrance of the Freedom Express was what sold us on this model. We attend various events that require dresses and slacks, rather than our regular camping clothes. We even brought our costumes for a Halloween party. The closet has a shelf above and space below. The shelf above had ample room for bread and chips, and the tub under the clothes was a great place to access tools and trailer papers. We stored the broom and a mop in the back of the closet. The space under the shelf was perfect for storing our dancing and hiking boots, as well as our shower shoes.
Good things in the bedroom of the Freedom Express
While in the bedroom, take a look at the actual queen-sized bed, complete with mirrored closets on both sides. We are leaving our “Mr. Pillow” mattress topper that we are sure you will appreciate.
The area above the bed was great for storing day packs, hats, and all those extras you are sure you'll need on extended trips. I found baskets that fit perfectly and are incredibly easy to access when needed.
The bathroom on the road side bisects the trailer, giving the sleepers a feeling of privacy. We prefer shower curtains just because they don’t shatter mid-transit, leaving shards of glass all over the floor. We know this is seldom the case, but it can be a significant inconvenience if it does happen. The shower curtain is the way to go for us. It makes the bathroom feel roomier when you are on the toilet, as you are not bumping against those glass doors.
At a total length of 24’ 6”, a width of 8’, and with no slide to give you trouble, it can go into any campground and not worry about being too big. Slides add weight; pick up needles, and those pesky little rocks that damage the floor.
We tow the trailer with a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Limited equipped with the towing package without any problems. It pulls straight and will ascend most hills at California's maximum speed for trailers.
Additionally, a completely new roof was installed by the dealership in April 2025, and new batteries were installed in June 2025. The dealership performed regular maintenance, and repairs
Travel light and live big. This trailer is ready for your next incredible journey.
