Description
You are looking at my 1978 GMC 4108 “Buffalo” Bus (P8M4108a-232). GMC Motor Coach only made 232 of this model, and Flight Risk is the last 35’ bus off the line. It was used in the movie Angels in the Outfield. I’ve been converting it for about 12 years as we used it, starting with the mechanical and utilities. It’s fully functional as an RV, but needs to have the interior completed to make it perfect. I still classify it as a project! The engine has 4000 miles (110 hrs) since it's rebuild (bearings, rings, heads, liners). These buses were prone to overheat because of the rear mounted engine and concealed exhaust. We reconfigured the exhaust to reduce the heat, and installed an auxiliary cooler that can be turned on to help on hot days. It immediately drops the engine temperature when climbing hills in August. There is no odometer, but the hubometer shows 69k. 3 of the 4 electrical panels have been totally rebuilt with upgraded components and new wiring diagrams. It has a 24v system, and I added three separate 24v->12v knock downs to operate components that only work on 12v such as the refrigerator and phone chargers. Many of the lights are now LED. I converted the air operated windshield wipers to electric, and built a custom dash with an RV GPS. The motor home is set up for 30 amp service, but also has an 8000 Onan diesel generator. All spare parts, manuals and pictures are included in the sale.
It has 50 gal gray and 50 gal black tanks. It carries 120 gal fresh water- it was made to boondock. It’s got an electric/propane hot water heater, surge tank and water pump. It has a Primo cold and hot drinking water dispenser, the bathroom shower is glass tile. It has a 16’ frameless awning with lights. There is a propane grill that swings out from a compartment, and holds 2- 20# propane cylinders. All appliances are less than 8 years old, fridge is 2. Plenty of storage.
This bus is mechanically sound and can be used immediately. It’s fully functional as an RV, and can flat tow a car. I did most of the heavy lifting when it comes to engine, plumbing and electrical. It’s ready for someone to take it to the next level and make the interior awesome. It’s got a valid Ohio title and ready to be transferred. You WILL get attention! The bus is located near Statesville, NC at my family’s farm for the winter. I can send more pictures of the bus, and can meet you to drive it (as long as I have some notice since I live out of state).
