When RV Park owners think about signs, they often envision rectangles or squares. Look around, and you'll see that the vast majority of entry signs follow this predictable pattern. But if you want to capture attention and stand out, it's time to literally "think outside the box."

The Power of Unique Shapes

Using unconventional shapes can make your sign more noticeable. Most signs are square or rectangular, so choosing a different shape will naturally draw more eyes. Our standard design incorporates a curved top and bottom, deviating from the traditional rectangle. This small change makes our properties easily recognizable from a distance.

Minimal Cost Difference

Custom shapes don't necessarily cost more. Whether it's a triangle, a circle, or a sign with a deliberate slant, the price difference is usually minimal. Even the most expensive shape, a custom-cut circle, doesn't cost significantly more. So, you're not paying a premium for creativity—you're just avoiding the mundane.

Why the Default to Squares and Rectangles?

Sign companies prefer simple shapes because they are easier to build. When asked for advice, they'll suggest the simplest option, which is typically a square or rectangle. This approach minimizes their effort but doesn't necessarily serve your best interests. Choosing an unusual shape might not make you friends with the sign maker, but it will please your bank and investors when they see increased visibility and revenue.

Enhancing Existing Signs

If you're stuck with a conventional sign, there are still ways to make it stand out. Add elements like flags, streamers, or banners. Consider adding a strobe light or something that moves. Drawing inspiration from car dealerships, which are masters at grabbing attention, can be particularly useful. We once added a giant flag to a square sign in Kansas City, dramatically improving its visibility and appeal.

Examples of Effective Signage

Consider these standout sign designs:

  • A sign in the shape of an arrow
  • Free-standing letters spelling “RV”
  • A sign shaped like a riverboat
  • A circular sign
  • A sign in the shape of a bear (used in a park we recently acquired)

Notice what's missing? Boring squares and rectangles.

Your entry sign is crucial for attracting customers and generating excitement among returning visitors. Nobody likes a dull salesman, and the same goes for your signage. You don't have to be a major brand to be original. Enhance your RV park's entry sign by thinking creatively and stepping away from conventional shapes.
