Description

This is not your everyday Host Cascade. I've spent $20,000 in upgrades to create a rugged, boondockable, self-sustaining, go-anywhere RV.

This Cascade comes with an off-grid power system containing 4 175-watt solar panels, 4 100 amp-hour LiPo batteries and a 3000-watt inverter/charger. A high-efficiency central AC that replaces the noisy, inefficient rooftop unit. The Onan generator, a definite gas guzzler, is replaced with a high-efficiency, quieter Honda 2200i generator. A 175-amp quick disconnect cable between the LiPo batteries and the truck's batteries is installed using a Lithium Battery Isolation Manager. This device uses the high output power of the truck's alternator to charge the LiPo batteries as you drive. A “cool” trick while heading to a destination is to turn on the AC ahead of time. You're now using your truck to charge your LiPo batteries and pre-cool your RV before you get to your destination.

The two flat-screen monitors have been upgraded with 4K LED Smart technology and an electric fireplace and a new leather recliner has also been added. The fender skirts have been upgraded with aluminum diamond plate.

A piece of equipment that Host is famous for is the huge sliding tray in the storage compartment. You can fit a lot of gear in there but when you’re four-wheeling to your destination it tends to move around. Next thing you know you have a broken water line or jammed drawer. I've installed aircraft-grade L-tracks, fittings, and ratchet straps along the full length of the drawer to secure your equipment.

Mounted on the rear are a set of Recovery Traction Boards, 2 Roto-Pax fuel cans, and a high-intensity LED light bar.

I prefer to sell my 2016 Ram 3500 Longhorn Laramie with the camper (for an additional $45k, 140,000 miles). This Ram has the highest level of options I could find. Like the camper, I made many mods to ensure the truck was up to the task:
- Hauler 19.5x6.75 aluminum rims w/ Toyo 110 psi M/S tires w/pressure monitors.
- Rear 1.3” diameter Helwig sway bar
- Firestone Ride-Rite airbags w/built-in compressor.
- Bilstein gas shocks front and rear
- Heavy-duty front and rear diamond plate bumpers
- Warn 6-ton winch w/ synthetic rope, wireless control & 2” receiver for front and rear operation.
- Tow strap/recovery gear
- AEV Snorkel System (I've never submerged this truck, it’s a “just in case”)
- Front LED high-Intensity light bar
- Ranch jack
- ¾” rubber bed mat

This RV/truck combo isn't an EarthRoamer but it's darn close.
