My wife, Judy, and I work as a team in this important hospitality campground industry.  Her background is in accounting, marketing and human resources.  My background is in Park Administration and 25 years as a successful landscape contractor.  Prior to starting my own business, I worked as a Park Ranger for the county of San Bernardino at Park Moabi on the Colorado River.  The park had a marina, store, permanent residents, overnight camping, and houseboat rentals.   Since I sold my business in 2005, we have been sharing our hospitality and skills as managers for two separate KOA campgrounds.

Our home is a 39 foot 5^th wheel which we share with our two year old Maltipoo and our six year old Brittany Spaniel.

After 25 years as a successful self-employed Landscape Contractor, I sold my business and went back to my first love, camping.  I have spent the last seven years applying my skills and education to managing campgrounds. 

My strengths are in suggesting and following through with campground amenity improvements and operation improvements to increase efficiency, customer satisfaction and the bottom line.

I was hired to oversee the construction of this campground which burned to the ground in 2006.  I was responsible for supervising all the construction phases from start to finish.  Upon completion of the construction in the fall of 2009, I was responsible for all the day-to-day operations of the campground.  I reported directly to the campground owners and oversaw a staff of 12 during season. 

Results:

Construction completed with the addition of new alternative septic system, two satellite restrooms, and the main building which houses a lobby, laundry, game room, office, and store.

Increased revenue over $250,000 in 2009 and 2010 after construction was completed.

Increased camper nights to over 10,000 in 2010.

Increased camper satisfaction ratings by 39% the first full year of operations.

Instituted food service on campground.

Received President’s Award in 2011.

I was hired to turn around this old KOA campground with drug problems, old amenities and a terrible reputation.  I reported directly to the campground owners and oversaw a staff of 10 during season.

Results:

Evicted trouble makers in campground and cleaned it up.

Increased camper satisfaction by 43% in first year and won KOA President’s Award second year. 

Improved campground amenities and sites.

Increased revenue by over half a million in two years.

Volunteer Administrative Assistant

After more than 25 years as a cost accountant for three multi-million dollar farming operations, I retired when the principal farmer died.  I love to keep busy and have thoroughly loved my last seven years as the volunteer administrative half of our KOA Campground Management experience.

Volunteer Administrative Assistant                                        

I was the administrative team member of management.  Things I assisted with were hiring, firing and training of employees; all bookkeeping, payroll and accounting issues; marketing, trade shows and advertising both locally and regionally; finding vendors for convenience store and gift shop; buyer, merchandiser and displayer of retail gift store items.  I also assisted with bringing in car rentals, pony rides, arts & crafts and local entertainers to increase recreational activities at the campground as well as starting a food concession revenue stream.
