Keep your RV Park or Campground Full Despite Rising Fuel Costs

     All of the articles I have read lately about gas prices affecting RV’ers have had the same basic theme. The RV’ers are still traveling, they are just staying closer to home. What these articles aren’t telling you is how to capitalize on this as an RV Park owner. Here are a few ideas to help you draw more local travelers.

Target larger population areas within 350 miles of your location. Short radio advertisements can be very inexpensive and easy to produce. Many larger cities have online groups of all types, find any RV, outdoor, travel, etc. groups and give them a reason to come. Call RV dealers about getting mailing lists from them. Offer a discount for local travelers. Offer a $20.00 gas card for a week reservation. If you regularly travel to these larger cities, visit the shops and stores that cater to the outdoor lifestyle and put up a flyer. If not, try to find someone local who will post the flyers for you.

The next thing you want to do is to increase your visibility. Get your facility online. A domain name, hosting and a simple one or two page website should cost you less than $50.00 per year. There are many free resources available that will teach you how to target your website to potential visitors. Once again, find the RV, outdoor, travel, etc. groups of major areas and join them. Most newspapers are online & online only advertisements are usually cheaper than print versions. Check online directories, guides and resources for the local area and make sure you are listed and the information is correct. Follow up with any visitors who find you online. Ask for testimonials and use them in future advertisements and on your own site.

Finally, get local visitors to come back next year. Give them a coupon for a week’s reservation for the next year. Collect names, email addresses, addresses and phone numbers. Ask them to tell you about their best vacation moment. Send them a reminder about the great time they had last year and remind them of the coupon. Offer a half price week if they refer someone to your facility. On top of this, make sure you put the extra effort into making your RV Park or Campground a hassle free place to stay. This will increase your chance of having them come back…. It may even turn into a tradition.
